Can you wear black to a wedding?

Yes! You can wear black to a wedding!


While black used to be reserved for funerals and times of mourning, this color has become more and more acceptable for weddings. Of course, you make want to make sure the wedding's dress code doesn't advise against it.


There are a few things to keep in mind when wearing black to a wedding:

  • Think about the formality of the wedding. Elegant ballroom? Grand museum? Black is classic, classy, and formal.

  • Make sure the black dress is appropriate for the occasion.

  • Choose a black outfit that is flattering and makes you feel confident.

  • Make sure the black clothing is clean and pressed.

So, can you wear black to a wedding? If you are unsure about whether or not it is appropriate to wear black to a wedding, it may be best to err on the side of caution and contact the Bride, or, choose a different color.



Maybe wearing black as a guest to a wedding used to be taboo, but not now.  Black is becoming more popular and generally accepted, if you wear it right.
